Marietta Church To Host Music Ministry Workshop

Published August 18, 2005

Musicians around the archdiocese are invited to a renewal of their liturgical ministry at a daylong workshop planned for Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Marietta. Dr. Elaine Rendler-McQueeney and Lourdes Montgomery will be the main presenters at the event.

This workshop is open to presiding ministers, eucharistic ministers, greeters, ushers, lectors, music ministers, liturgy committees, sacristans, art and environment teams, as well as those who participate as part of the congregation.

The focus of the renewal, entitled “How Firm a Foundation,” will be on the principles of liturgical renewal, so that all ministers might share a common vision when preparing and celebrating the liturgy.

An English track and a Hispanic track will be offered.

Rendler-McQueeney, an internationally recognized musician, teacher, composer, pastoral liturgist and speaker, will address those attending the English track. She holds a doctorate in organ performance from Catholic University.

Montgomery, who was born in Havana, Cuba, is director of music at Mother of Christ Church in Miami, Fla. She will speak with the Hispanic attendees.

Both presenters are published composers with Oregon Catholic Press.

All are invited to attend. Advance registration is $5 per person, which includes a buffet luncheon. Registration at the door is $10.
