Archdiocese To Be Rededicated To Mary Dec. 12
Published diciembre 6, 2007 | Available In English
In a culmination of months of prayers and preparation, Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory will re-consecrate the church in North Georgia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and dedicate the archdiocese to Our Lady of Guadalupe on her feast day, Dec. 12. In Masses to be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta, and 10 other parishes around the archdiocese, the Archdiocese of Atlanta will be placed under the protection and care of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and Empress of the Archdiocese.
Earlier this year the Hispanic Ministry Office procured images of Our Lady of Guadalupe from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, which were blessed there on April 23. These paintings were brought to Atlanta as part of an initiative to increase Marian devotion and served as the focus of catechesis in the months since their arrival.
Archbishop Gregory will crown the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and re-consecrate the archdiocese during Mass at 12:10 p.m. at the Cathedral. The Cathedral of Christ the King is located at 2699 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta.
The schedule follows for the special Masses and crownings at the other parishes hosting the Marian images. All Masses are open to the public.
