Annual Christmas Tourney Set For St. Pius

St. Pius X High School will host the ninth annual “Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament,” at its gymnasium Dec. 27, 29 and 30.

The tournament, which has grown to become one of the premier high school basketball tournaments in the country, brings boys and girls varsity basketball teams together from across the country to play in this holiday athletic event.

This year’s tournament includes the following boys teams: Archbishop Alter Knights, Kettering, Ohio; Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers, Severn, Md.; Bishop Verot Vikings, Ft. Myers, Fla.; Brother Martin Crusaders, New Orleans, La.; Holy Cross Tigers, New Orleans; Roger Bacon Spartans, Cincinnati, Ohio; St. Pius X Golden Lions, Atlanta; and St. Vincent Pallotti Panthers, Laurel, Md.

The girls teams participating are: Cardinal Newman Cardinals, Columbia, S.C.; Fayette County Tigers, Fayetteville; Mercy Academy Jaguars, Louisville, Ky.; Our Lady of Lourdes Bobcats, Miami, Fla.; St. Jude Pirates, Montgomery, Ala.; St. Mary’s Academy Cougars, New Orleans; St. Pius X Golden Lions, Atlanta; and Winder-Barrow Bulldogs, Winder.

Games will run from 1:30 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. each day. The Monsignor Lopez Championship Trophy will be awarded to the tournament’s winning boys and girls teams immediately following the final game on Dec. 30.

Three-day tickets will be available at the door for $12, and single day tickets will also be available for $5. St. Pius X High School is located at 2674 Johnson Road, NE, Atlanta.
