Byzantine Catholics Break Ground In Roswell

Groundbreaking ceremonies for Epiphany Byzantine Catholic Church were held at the site of the new church on Old Alabama Road in Roswell. In attendance were Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan of Atlanta, Bishop Michael Dudick of Passaic, New Jersey, Father Philip Scott, pastor of Epiphany parish, other members of the clergy, parishioners and guests.

Mass was celebrated by Bishop Dudick, and Archbishop Donnellan addressed the congregation.

The church, expected to be completed this fall, will be the first Byzantine Catholic church in Georgia and will serve the spiritual needs of Byzantine Catholics in Georgia and South Carolina.

Designed by the architectural firm of Barker and Cunningham, the church will exhibit styling features reminiscent of Eastern Europe. These traditional features have been incorporated into a building that is both unique and functional. This European styling is represented by only two other churches in the entire United States.

Following the ceremonies, a reception was held at the Hilton Inn at Tucker.
