Sister Catherine Johns of the Medical Mission Sisters,
Philadelphia, will leave for Ghana, West Africa, on December 26. Sister
Catherine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert V. Johnson of Atlanta.
Sister Catherine will spend her first year in Ghana studying the
language and culture of the people. After this year of orientation, she will
join the staff of one of the Medical Mission Sisters three hospitals in
the Brong-Ahafo District as a medical technologist.
A graduate of St. Pius X High School, Atlanta, and Trinity
College, Washington, D.C., Sister Catherine joined the Medical Mission Sisters
in 1963. In September of this year she finished a course in medical technology
at Sibley Hospital, Hospital, Washington, D.C.
The Medical Mission Sisters are a religious community devoted to
medical work in the developing countries of Asia, Africa, and South America.
Founded by Mother Anna Dengel, M.D., in 1965, the Sisters now number over 750.
Their work in 18 countries includes the training of local people in medical and
paramedical skills.
The medical Mission Sisters are also affiliated with Holy Family
hospital, Fairburn and Sewell Roads, S.W., Atlanta. |
