Catholic Family Services Names Deckbar President

Gerard T. Deckbar, an Atlanta architect, has been installed as president of Catholic Family Service. He succeeds John A. Ferguson.

Deckbar, a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, is a member of the Archdiocesan Board of Education. He was a delegate to the Lay Congress and served on the ad hoc education committee. He served as vice president of Catholic Family Services.

Other officers are: E.B. Baker, first vice president; Myles S. Boothe, second vice president, and Mrs. James W. Callison, secretary-treasurer.

In addition to the officers, the other members of the board are Louis C. Amann, Dr. J. Norman Berry, Paul Brown, Stuart Cashin, Jr., Joseph Cerniglia, T. J. Crittenden, A. M. Deiters, John A. Ferguson, Henry L. de Give, James R. Hicky, Harvey Hill, Jr., Mrs. James J. Hynes, Mrs. Benjamin L. Jones, Dr. Joseph Markey, Lee Nichols, Miss Janet Rogan, H. L. Sander, Edward Schweers, Dr. Patrick C. Shea, Mrs. Paul N. Steenrod, Charles A. Simmons, Mrs. Joseph A. Wilbur, Father James F. Scherer, ex officio (secretary, Department of Catholic Social Services).

Catholic Family Services, 1207 Carnegie Building, is supported by the United Appeal, the Archdiocese of Atlanta and fees. It is a counseling agency which provides services relating to problems of families and individuals. Miss Mary Julia Hogan, executive secretary, reported that over 300 families came to the attention of the agency during 1967. One of the responsibilities of the agency is to do admission studies for the Village of St. Joseph as well as other Catholic institutions outside of the archdiocese.
